"To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?"
From Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Like most people I've heard this phrase a thousand times without sitting down and pondering on it even for a minute. Recently though I got round to thinking about it and could not but marvel at its simplicity and depth.
"To be" or "not to be" is it our choice? Can we truly "not be" once we are? Is "to be" ever truly in our control?
A host of such questions that require a lifetime to answer and all from a phrase which needs less than a second to read...
I wonder how the bard would have fared in this techy time?
ReplyDeleteHis words are still beautiful to savor.
He'd be a hit on youtube with his soo far out there ideas and probably have a popular blog to boot.
ReplyDeleteI'm also pretty sure he'd be successful in bringing the frilly collars back in style where Elton John failed...
