Simple pleasures: Book sale browsing

One of the most stimulating and exhilarating yet rejuvenating and refreshing ways to spend a weekend afternoon is to browse a books sale.

I did just that today and not only managed to get a great bargain on a bunch of books I've been hunting but also was able to identify a host of books and authors whose works I'd like to buy in the near future.

Lately my reading has been predominantly Science Fiction and Fantasy followed by Historical books (both factual and fiction) and biographies. All but the biographies, nowadays, typically come in long saga formats spanning several volumes. The reason I ended up with more lists than books today was that most of the series I found interesting had key volumes missing from the inventory of the sale.

Coming back to the captioned subject I did spend a wonderful afternoon and even managed to get an armload of reading for a song. I find that I get more of a kick out of bargain hunting books than even browsing a library. While the library gives a greater range of books and makes less of a dent in the wallet there is something about the permanence of actually acquiring a book that’s more gratifying to me.
